Staffordshire County Council - School Holiday Cycling

Staffordshire County Council were looking for a provider to work within four districts – Tamworth, Lichfield, South Staffordshire and Cannock Chase – to deliver Bikeability Level 1 and Learn to Ride programmes to increase the cycling skills of 5 – 10 year olds during the school holidays.

Following a short tender process, Aspire were awarded the project in 2016 and were expected to source local venues, promote and market training dates and deliver national standard training to the specifications expected by the County Council. Additionally, we offered a fully inclusive solution by providing an online booking platform, administration support, location and back office provision and all equipment.

Staffordshire County Council provided funding for 880 young people to participate in the training across four districts. Aspire were efficient in collecting and providing data and feedback, providing information to parents and carers on further cycling and active travel opportunities as well as undertaking risk assessments in line with the council’s expectations.

“Due to their continued success, Aspire were awarded a further contract to provide holiday training in the south of the county in four districts following a procurement process. This will enable the County Council to increase the number of children receiving training, getting and staying active.”

Aspire's organisation – from project management, back office administration and on ground delivery – has been incredibly good which has enabled the programme to not only be a success but we have been able to include a much larger number than originally thought.
